In Finland, Edenred users can pay for Wolt orders directly with Edenred's lunch benefit

Founded in 2014, Wolt has revolutionized ordering food in Finland. The restrictions imposed due to the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, caused a rapid increase to almost wholly working from home for the vast majority of employees, which led to higher demand for meals from restaurants.

This trend continued to develop, eventually becoming the norm, although the name of the application has been translated into English for the public, the term “wolting” which was designed for meal delivery has now become widespread.

Nowadays, the finish users who benefit from Edenred’s solutions can now pay directly with meal vouchers on the mobile application and on the website of Wolt. With this new service, Edenred’s solution can be selected as a payment option on the Wolt application. If the personal credit or debit card of a user has been registered on their Edenred account, the part of the order of the meal that exceeds the daily limit will be debited directly from this card. The application processes the transaction in a transparent way.

"Ordering food with a lunch benefit is easy as can be. The possibility to combine a lunch benefit and a bank card, and to place a food order with a single payment in the Wolt app makes it easier to take advantage of the benefit offered by the employer," says Jacob Segercrantz, Managing Director, Edenred Finland.

"The lunch benefit is a significant part of Finnish food culture and a highly desired payment method in our app. Streamlining the utilization of the benefit is, above all, customer service. Easier use of the lunch benefit also helps to keep the Finnish food culture and nutrition of Finns more diverse. Making home ordering easier is even more topical now that the popularity of remote work has exploded," says Joel Järvinen, Wolt's Country Manager for Finland.

Lunchtime around 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the working week is the busiest time for restaurants in Finland. The nutrition benefit, or more commonly known as the lunch benefit, is the most common employee benefit in the country and it is used mostly for lunch meals. Also, for Wolt orders, lunchtime during the business days is one of the most active times.

The lunch benefit is a maximum of 12.70 euros per day

The lunch benefit can be used to buy restaurant dishes and fresh ready-to-eat food at grocery stores. Fresh ready-to-eat food includes salad bars, sushi dishes and warm food served at the stores.

"With the rise in food prices, more attention will be paid to the cost of meals. The lunch benefit is a method that can be used to reduce food costs. Ordering with the lunch benefit when working from home also saves time," Jacob Segercrantz concludes.
